Relieve Stomach Pain For Kids – 18 mins

Relieve Stomach Pain For Kids – 18 mins

This is a relaxation to help kids with stomach pain. It was made originally for a 7 year old girl called Isla, who was getting stomach pain every day and didn’t want to go to school. The first couple of times she tried it she concentrated too hard on following the instructions. But by the third time she relaxed and learned how to heal stomach pain naturally and effortlessly. So it’s worth doing several times, or even every day for a while, until your child gets used to relaxing and settles into it easily.  The pictures below are by Isla and represent her experience of listening to this relaxation.      ...

Sleep Well For Kids – 13 mins

This download is a guided relaxation for kids who are having trouble sleeping. The best way to use it is to download it onto an MP3 player or mobile phone and listen to it on earphones or a speaker at bedtime. It will lead your child to relax and fall asleep naturally. It will also help your child to balance their energy with repeated use, which can prevent nightmares and other night-time fears. Thank you very much and please let me know how your child gets on with the relaxation. Please left click the blue button to play the audio. Right click and save as to download...
Happy

Happy

This is an experimental recording of a “story relaxation” to help children feel happy without having to get overexcited. It was inspired by Jade, who’s 11 and gave me the key elements to the story. It may also help children to relax and calm down. It’s most likely to appeal to children in the 7 to 11 age range. It would be good if your child would listen to it several times, maybe every day for a few days. It should have more effect that way. I’d love any feedback in the comments below – positive or negative. I want to find out if kids enjoy it and also if they benefit from it. Any feedback directly from them is also welcome. You can stream the audio by left clicking the button, or right click to download it. Please note: this is an experiment and I am here to learn how to make relaxation work for kids. So I really welcome your help and suggestions. It’s a work in progress!...
Your Greatest Potential

Your Greatest Potential

Imagine the small seed of a huge tree. It’s buried in the ground. The soil is becoming warm. The air is moist. There’s a slight stirring, a tiny expansion, a movement and from one day to the next a root is pushing down into the earth. Let me ask you a question. Was the seed broken when it lay in the ground, dormant? Was there something wrong with it, because it wasn’t a tree yet? Was it sick because it was small and cold? Now imagine the same seed a few days later. There’s a shoot pushing out of the soil. The shoot is producing leaves. The leaves are growing up towards the sun. Is the tree sick because it has only two leaves? Is it damaged because it has no trunk yet, no branches, no flowers? Is it inferior because it has no fruit or seeds. Imagine the seedling now a few weeks later. It has 5 leaves and a tangle of roots – so proud of itself, standing tall beside the grass. Has the seedling reached its peak, because it’s taller than the grass? Has it finally achieved its full potential, because it has 5 leaves? Does it have any idea of who it really is? Or what it’s going to become?  Do you have any idea who you really are and who you’re going to become? Or what it’s going to take to get there? Or what might change along the...
It’s not only what you put in your body but also what you clean out

It’s not only what you put in your body but also what you clean out

I just heard the other day of another poison – maybe you already knew this – apparently aluminium foil leaves trace of aluminium on the food it’s wrapped around. There are so many poisons now, it’s difficult to know what’s safe to eat and what will become unsafe tomorrow. Of course, it’s absolutely crazy to knowingly eat stuff, or put it on your skin, which is full of poisons, and sadly that’s what most of us have been doing all our lives. But I personally can’t handle that kind of life, which is afraid of everything. Afraid to eat most food because of the poisons it contains. Afraid to eat fruit off the tree, in case it’s been sprayed. Afraid to enjoy a piece of cake because it has sugar in it. I was looking for some organic shampoo recently in Croatia, and I made the mistake of expecting to find it in the supermarket. As I tried to read the labels to see if there were any products at all that weren’t full of parabens and other nasty substances, I felt the effect of that fear. How it makes you contracted and narrow-minded, always counting the cost and unable to enjoy anything. So what to do now? There’s one simple thing to remember to help reduce the fear in a world that is certainly full of scary statistics. Your body is designed to clean out poisons. It’s incredibly efficient at it. It does it all the time. But…and it’s a big but…we need to cooperate with that process, not prevent it. And sadly, through ignorance more than anything...
Is there hidden gold in the epidemic of depression?

Is there hidden gold in the epidemic of depression?

Around 2001 I discovered from the World Health Organisation that depression was set to become the leading cause of death and disability by 2020. Now we’re not that far away and the prediction is becoming true. Major depression (or clinical depression) is already the biggest cause of disability for 15 to 44 years in USA. 9.6% of the population in USA experience bipolar disorder, major depression or minor chronic depression in one year. 30m Europeans suffer from depression, costing workplaces US$131.5bn per year One in every 10 people in USA is on some form of antidepressant (depressant drugs are prescribed to middle aged Americans more than any other drug) From 1995 to 2009 European use of antidepressants rose by 20% on average every year. Why is this happening? Are we suffering more mental illness because we are using our brains more than we ever have before? When our work was predominantly physical, our diseases were also more physical. There is no doubt that depression seems to grow as we become more developed. But depression is a world-wide epidemic – with 5% of the whole world’s population suffering from it. This is not just a western phenomenon. I am coming to believe there is something much deeper going on, connected with our evolution as human beings. My work over the last few years has led me to delve deeply into the psychological and spiritual essence of many clients who were experiencing depression, along with many other physical and emotional conditions. Over and over again I have found, deep at the core of human life, a terrible fear. It’s a fear...
The Keys To Healing – With Scientific Validation

The Keys To Healing – With Scientific Validation

In 2006 a scientific study was published that dramatically changed our understanding about health. A group of men with low grade prostate cancer, who had chosen not to undergo conventional treatment, experienced a 12 week program of comprehensive lifestyle changes which consisted of: A largely vegetarian diet with a few supplements Moderate exercise – walking for 30 minutes a day 6 days a week Stress management techniques including relaxation A weekly support group Dean Ornish published his results  in several different journals. He went on to investigate heart disease, diabetes, depression and several other severely debilitating diseases. On his website he now says his “37 years of research has scientifically proven that the integrative lifestyle changes he recommends can:  improve chronic conditions – such as heart disease, diabetes and prostate cancer. change gene expression, turning on health-promoting genes & turning off disease-promoting genes. lengthen telomeres — the ends of chromosomes — which begins to reverse aging on a cellular level.” See more at: http://www.ornishspectrum.com/proven-program/ There is a quote from a doctor on Dean Ornish’s website which says: “Until I began delivering this program, I wasn’t used to seeing people actually get better.” Those of us who work in healing are used to seeing people get better, although we have often had to be careful what we say about it.  In my personal experience, over the past 25 years since I stepped into the world of alternative health with my very first acupuncture session, I have found just a few keys that are essential to natural healing. Relaxation and reduction or elimination of stress on a daily basis.Relaxating cleanses our body energetically. It opens us up...
How to balance your digestion

How to balance your digestion

If you have any kind of imbalance in your digestive system you will probably have spent some time adjusting your diet and wondering what’s the best food to eat.  I wrote about this some months ago and explained why I believe it is so important to focus more on strengthening your digestive system than on what food you eat. This does not mean it doesn’t matter what you eat at all. But in my experience over many years of working with people, I have always found that the more people relax and balance themselves emotionally and energetically the better food choices they make. And it’s completely natural.  I cannot count the number of times someone has reported to me in a surprised voice that they didn’t want coffee any more, or that they couldn’t drink any alcohol, or that they simply don’t feel any need to eat sweet things any longer. In fact it’s happened twice this week already. Yesterday I was asked how to balance the digestive system. I’m going to look at two areas: 1. Balancing your energy so you make naturally healthy choices. 2. Filling the spiritual hole inside so you can let go of cravings and addictive behaviour. Balance your energy A healthy human being has a balance of new energy flowing into the system and old energy flowing out of it. We don’t want to be too full of old energy because it becomes stagnant and life gets too static. But we also don’t want to be too full of new energy –  that’s like constantly getting new ideas but never doing anything with them and life would be moving too fast to...
The simple way to turn an argument into an opportunity

The simple way to turn an argument into an opportunity

He says something that drives you crazy. He’s said it many times before. She does something that you can’t stand and it looks like she’ll never change, because she’s been doing it like that ever since you met. You have been triggered by something and it sets off a little storm inside your head. You react – probably you know you shouldn’t react that way, but you do anyway. He or she reacts back and before you know where you are, an argument is in full swing. You have probably had almost exactly the same argument before, many times over, with little variations. You know it’s not going to go anywhere, but you can’t find any other way to respond. The two of you are locked in a pattern that repeats over and over again. Sometimes it lasts for days, weeks or even years. You get used to it but there is a deep inner feeling of slight disappointment, as if you have lost something. You wish it could all be fresher, more inspiring – a little more magic and a little less predictability. What you probably don’t realize is that this is your golden opportunity to find that little bit more magic, that inspiration and freshness that has been so lacking. If this is new to you, it may be a bit challenging to understand at first, but I encourage you to persevere. This knowledge has turned relationships around in both short-term dramatic and longer-term more profound ways. Here’s how to look at it. You are made of energy, as we all are. So you are, in essence,...
How to Get Powerful Communication With Your Higher Self

How to Get Powerful Communication With Your Higher Self

Sometimes when I sit down to communicate with my Higher Self I seem to have to go through lots of hurdles to get the connection really clear. When I am very relaxed it is easy and I can chat away like to my best friend. But if I have got a bit too involved in business or other activities it can take longer to open the lines. I thought it would be useful to share some of the things that can come up to distract you and how to deal with them, as we will probably all face most of them at some stage. You may have some more to add to the list too. Just imagine that you have sat down to relax and commune with your Higher Self, or with God, your Guides, Angels, Archangels, Ascended Masters or anyone else you want to have a relationship with in the Divine World. Your mind appears determined to prevent you from getting easily into this communication and is trying whatever tricks it can to keep itself at the centre of your attention. It looks something like this: Your mind is suddenly filled with problems. There are so many of them to be solved that you couldn’t possibly spend time with any of those Divine beings. You need to get on with thinking about all the problems and trying to solve them mentally. Just be aware that you will never solve them this way. Do not fight your mind over this as it will fight you back and probably win. Gently remind yourself that your Higher Self (or God or just...
5 Tips To Transform The Challenges of 2014 Into Opportunities

5 Tips To Transform The Challenges of 2014 Into Opportunities

The Year of the Wood Horse – that’s what the Chinese call 2014. But what does this mean? In a webinar last week with Chinese Metaphysics expert, Aleksandra Dorann, we discovered how the extraordinary knowledge of ancient China reveals patterns that influence us all. To summarise very briefly, the Chinese describe energy and the cycles of nature in the language of 5 elements – wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Every aspect of life can be described in terms of these 5 elements. So shapes, colours, tastes, smells, movement and other characteristics of our world are all connected with one or more of the elements. For example, the fire element is associated with triangular shapes, red and fiery colours, the bitter taste, burnt smell and an ascending direction or movement. The elements are also linked with the seasons, the human emotions and our internal organs, so fire is the element of summer, of enthusiasm and joy and it links with the heart and the small intestine. The Chinese also discovered many cycles of the elements, including a cycle that changes every 2 hours, a daily cycle, monthly and  annual cycles, as well as 5 year cycles, 20 year cycles and many others. When you study how all these cycles interact with each other you can find out the major patterns that influence us throughout our lives. Add to that our own individual element makeup and then it gets really interesting. The Chinese discovered that we are strongly imprinted with the energy of the moment when we are born (ie when we first become independent of our mother’s energy). This energy determines...
Fast Forward Your Life

Fast Forward Your Life

How aware are you of the changes that are currently taking place in our society, and especially our technology? Let me ask that once again – how aware are you really? I spent the day yesterday listening to Roger Hamilton, brilliant futurist, social entrepreneur and Founder of Wealth Dynamics. What I heard has such far-reaching implications for all of us that I have to share some of it here. It is predicted that Artificial Intelligence will become more powerful than human intelligence somewhere between 2020 and 2045. That’s very close! And it makes most of what we may be planning to do with our minds pretty much redundant already. I used to be scared of this because it is always discussed as though intelligence is all we have as human beings. But yesterday it pushed me to ask the question “What is the essence of the human experience?” That is the bit that AI would not have – and it is the part that we can specialise in. It seems to be a pretty important question that every adult and child needs to be asking right now. It is conceivable that within a very short time we could let AI solve all our practical problems while we focus on having a truly human experience. But only if we choose it and prepare ourselves! It is said that in 2025 the first commercial copy of a human body will be produced, in 2030 the first artificial brain and in 2045 it could be that human beings are more machine than biology. It is tempting to ignore these facts as they seem so far-fetched given our...
Why Is Relaxation Soooo Powerful?

Why Is Relaxation Soooo Powerful?

It seems such a little thing – to relax. We think we are doing it when we read a book or watch TV. And that is relaxation, up to a point. But there is so much more. After almost 25 years of learning about life and how to develop myself I still find simple relaxation the most powerful approach of all. So let me explain what I mean. Relaxing is simply allowing. It is doing nothing. Letting go of control. It’s also letting go of pain, letting go of emotional suffering, letting go of worry. This is not a mental process of letting go. It is simply relaxing wherever you are tense. It is not a technique or a tool, because techniques and tools require you to do something. Trying to relax is not relaxing, it’s trying. This is challenging, because we are used to doing something to solve a problem. Not doing something is impossible for the mind to contemplate. However it is not doing that is much more powerful than doing. I am not saying we should all sit around doing nothing, waiting for the universe to drop love or money into our laps. I am saying that when we are truly relaxed (ie doing nothing), we experience that the universe is dropping love and money into our laps! And that’s the key difference.  When you are trying to be relaxed you can wait for a long time. When you are truly relaxed remarkable things happen with little or no...
Discover beauty, joy and peace right in the middle of your life

Discover beauty, joy and peace right in the middle of your life

We are vibrational beings. So you can imagine each of us is like a rich sound that is made up of an incredible array of different tones, each represented by a particular vibration. If a sound is beautiful it is made up of tones that harmonise naturally with each other. If a sound is very difficult to listen to, it is made up of tones that are too contrasting and so they do not create harmony. They fight with each other and sometimes even cancel each other out. Each area of our life has its own tone and some tones will be much louder than others. So there are the very fine tones of beauty, love and peace in our life – we all have access to all of them. Then there are the tones of money, work, career and business. There are tones for all our relationships and friendships, tones for all our body characteristics, and millions more tones for every tiny facet of our lives. When you imagine it like this you realise you can choose what tones you want to hear more loudly and which tones you would prefer to be part of the backing harmony of your life. For example, if your career or business are most valuable to you, you will choose to allow those tones to speak loudly. If your family is what you most value these are the tones you will listen to  most naturally. If you want more joy, peace or love in your life you will need to learn how to filter out all the noisier tones so you can...
How to Connect With Your Higher Self

How to Connect With Your Higher Self

It’s amazing how often I hear someone say something like this: “I pray or talk to God (or Source, the Divine, the Creator, Energy…) every day but I never get any answers. I wish I could have two-way communication.” So let’s explore how to get two-way connection with any Divine source or being you choose. A good place to start is your Higher Self. I think of my Higher Self as a separate being from me that is above my soul. It is always connected with the Light, so it never gets caught in the daily emotional drama of human life, but always maintains a divine perspective. You may have a different understanding of what a Higher Self is. It doesn’t matter that much. What’s important is being able to get in touch with it – then you can ask it yourself to tell you more about it. At my best I unite with my Higher Self and I demonstrate its character, rather than my more limited human personality. I feel this is the bigger potential I can sense in myself. I also get the distinct impression that my Higher Self is responsible for arranging most of the daily details of my life. It organises the meetings, the synchronicities, serendipitous events and everything I ask for, consciously or unconsciously. It connects with many other beings to help me fulfill all my wishes. I encourage everyone I work with to develop a lively relationship with their Higher Self so you can talk to it whenever you want. It is a great way to get answers to questions and solutions to problems....
Did you make the same mistake?

Did you make the same mistake?

Did you set out on the journey of awakening without any map to guide you? Most of us did! And most of us spent a lot of time, energy and money on the promise of instant results. It’s not that instant results don’t happen. They do – frequently. In fact my first ever venture into the world of alternative medicine was when I visited an acupuncturist 6 months after my sister died. I walked in feeling totally blocked and stuck in every aspect of my life. I walked out one hour later feeling free, easy and light and never again slipped back to where I had been. That was a miracle at the time. Almost 25 years have now passed and I have been on the journey of self and life discovery ever since. I have experienced many miracles. I even (three times) received huge sums of money virtually out of the blue – and I am talking hundreds of thousands of dollars each time from totally unexpected sources – none of them inheritances. But interestingly that didn’t teach me much about wealth or money, except that extraordinary things can happen when you least expect. I spent 10 years after that completely broke! When I look back on all those years, and all the many people I have met who are at various stages of awakening, I see there are some essential steps which make the journey a lot easier. Many people miss one or several of these steps and then get very stuck, sometimes for a long long time. Making sure you cover them all creates great satisfaction...
Someone close to you may be struggling with this every day of their lives

Someone close to you may be struggling with this every day of their lives

It is important because it is causing huge suffering in ‘normal’ families everywhere, and no one knows what to do about it. Vast amounts of money are being spent medicating people and treating people with a huge range of therapies, without doing the one thing that really needs to come first. Let’s first describe some of the signs that this is an issue and then I will explain what is really going on and how to solve it. Any one of these signs is enough – you do not need to experience all of them! You say or think really negative things that don’t feel or sound like you (you may wonder where it’s coming from) You experience rage or out of control responses, often unjustified by the situation You sometimes behave in a highly irrational, destructive manner, with consequences that you truly regret, and which appears to be out of character Uncontrollable temper tantrums (especially in young children) You are depressed, hopeless or despairing You have very dark feelings of self-hatred You wish you could kill yourself You hear extremely negative voices in your head You feel as if there is someone else living inside you who is very negative or dark You are really shocked at some of the thoughts that go on inside you You are struggling with addiction You have a strong resistance to the Light and anything spiritual And so on Here is what is happening. When most of us die we pass on to the Light (ie we carry on our journey in some way – it’s not important exactly what happens). Some people are afraid to go on to the...
Do you want to reach your goals with less hard work?

Do you want to reach your goals with less hard work?

Overall priority Explore in every direction that God (Infinite Light, Source, the Divine or whatever suits you) is always with you and with everyone and everything. That in God’s world there is no right and wrong, no good and bad. There is simply “what is.” Making choices Then make personal choices of what you want to experience. Start with choosing your way of being. When you are being how you want to be you can start to look at what you are doing and make choices about that. When you are being and doing what you have chosen you can choose what you want to have. It will come to you very easily. This is the order that works most effectively. Warning signs There are some warning signs that let you know when you are off track. If your feeling is not one you would choose it is time to choose how you want to be. This means there is never any time for feeling bad. If you are feeling good but feel that what you are doing is not fulfilling your mission it is time to choose what you want to do, and this can be in any moment. Ask yourself is this activity contributing to my mission. You will know immediately if the answer is yes or no. If it is no, choose again. If you are feeling good and your activity is fulfilling you may find there are things and experiences you want to have. Choose them now and wait for them to come to you, as they surely will, if you continue to choose how you want to be and what you want to do. This is a very simple formula that you can remember at...
Why The World Needs More Lovers And Less Warriors

Why The World Needs More Lovers And Less Warriors

The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz has been recommended to me many times so finally I got round to listening to it as an audiobook. I was hooked from the very first story – a beautiful, simple explanation of how we transmit love to one another. He goes on to give a masterful description of how our education and upbringing, almost from the day we are born, condition us to lose touch with who we really are. The personal and social consequences are disastrous. I had heard many times that the first agreement was to “be impeccable with your word.” It always gave me a slightly uneasy feeling. I was reminded of how many times I have promised something to someone and failed to deliver. You know, those little passing promises to do something or send something to someone which then get forgotten. When the real meaning of the first agreement was explained – so different from what I had expected – it was such a relief. It was not another exhortation to be a moral and dutiful person, who never forgets anything, is totally organised and generally above reproach in all ways. It was about recognising the power of what you think and say about yourself, above all, and never putting down your own true self to be someone other than who you are. As I listened to the explanations of all the agreements I thought of one person after another who I wanted to share the book with, including many clients. It is another way to make sense of what I have experienced for myself, learned...
What is your picture of success?

What is your picture of success?

Can you imagine working really hard to climb a steep mountain, only to discover when you get to the top that you feel disappointed. It’s nothing like you expected. Now imagine working hard all your life to achieve success, and discovering when you get there that it’s not what you were looking for. Not because you don’t want to be successful, but because you took the wrong path. I believe many people who struggle with success know inside themselves that they don’t want to go in the direction where they think success lies, and so they resist it, even as they try to get there. We have patterns in our subconscious that run our life, until we change them by consciously putting different patterns in there. Many of us programmed our picture of success a long time ago, often influenced by parents, teachers and other older people. This is our ‘default’ program. If you can step back and look at your default program you may find it is not very appealing. When I started thinking about this recently, I was shocked to realise my default picture of success included endless To Do lists, working 16 hour days, never having time for myself and various other unattractive characteristics. I experienced all of this when I was a lot younger and don’t ever want to go back there again. The thing is if you don’t consciously define a better picture of success the default is likely to be the direction you go – ‘by default’. Think how much time that subconscious program is running in your life. If you are not...
Miracles are still possible

Miracles are still possible

Miracles have been getting a bad press recently. So many promises have been made over the years by so many teachers, but many people have not experienced the results they expected. And yet, I want to hold out for miracles. Another one happened just yesterday. The most common miracles for me take place in relationships. I usually get to hear about people’s relationships when there is a lot of anger, disappointment and blame (or much worse). Of course it is always the other person who is apparently behaving really badly. I know from personal experience that even when you are very conscious and have done a lot of spiritual work, the minute your partner starts to do something that triggers you it is amazing how fast you can drop into blame and making him/her wrong (and yourself right). And for all women out there, I am willing to bet that when you can avoid getting into blame it is because you are trying to fix him. So you come across as if you have all the answers and you are in control, while he is the poor struggling guy, or the nasty guy, or the lost unconscious guy, or the arrogant guy…….or a whole lot more. And it drives him crazy or he just shuts down and stops responding. And then of course you think he needs fixing all the more. There is no real communication in this scenario. Most conversations seem to go along familiar tramlines that you have been along before. Neither of you really listens or understands the other person. Both tend to feel self righteous....
Appreciation – a simple way to feel wonderful

Appreciation – a simple way to feel wonderful

I’d like to share with you a really simple tool for raising your spirit and improving your mood. Personally I find it much more powerful than gratitude. Here is the easy way to get into it. Think of anything in your life that you appreciate and say something like this: I appreciate … because … Then find something else you appreciate and do the same. Repeat it as many times as you like. You don’t have to be clever about it. I have sometimes appreciated my hair because it’s brown, or my feet because they hold up my body. It seems to work just as well. It might appear slightly artificial until you feel the effects and then you won’t worry about that. Here are some very good ways to use this approach: Before meditation or relaxation – it puts you into a great space for meditation. If you are feeling down in any way – it’s hard to stay down when you appreciate things in your life. Get someone else to do it if they are having a hard time – it works well with teenagers. If you don’t like your body very much take some time to appreciate all the different parts of your body you can think of, starting at the top and working down to your feet. Do this every day for a month and your attitude to your body will transform. At the beginning of spontaneous prayer. If you’re awake in the early hours of the morning and can’t fall asleep again. As a daily practice to increase your prosperity and quality of life....
To people struggling with chronic pain

To people struggling with chronic pain

I want to share a small piece of information about pain that is the key to healing. If you suffer from pain you may be sick of empty promises about healing, but this is a way to heal pain that people rarely seem to understand, even when they have worked with many very experienced healers. It is not a technique. It is an understanding of what causes pain and what pain really is. With this understanding you can heal chronic pain that you have been suffering from for years. First of all let’s get clear about the healing process, especially if you are unfamiliar with it. Stories about miracles in the Bible have left many people with the impression that healing is an instantaneous event. Whilst this is possible, and happens from time to time, most people take time to heal, and that is a good thing. My understanding and experience of healing has shown that all disease is fundamentally caused by what we think, feel and expect.  Much of this is subconscious, so you may not be aware of how it is happening. Even modern medicine is increasingly recognising the emotional causes of most western health problems, from cancer and heart disease to all the chronic health problems that we commonly suffer form including asthma, IBS and digestive disorders, blood pressure and circulatory disorders, thyroid and hormonal problems, the problems that no one can help including Chronic Fatigue (ME), fibromyalgia and many problems that cannot even be diagnosed. If you want to prevent a problem from recurring it is very important to learn the kind of healthy emotional...
From the head to the heart

From the head to the heart

When you get stuck in your head and lose connection with your heart it is difficult torelate to people and to life in a way that feels satisfying. Even if you are doing everything “right” on paper it just doesn’t feel right from the inside. We live in a very head-based culture, with a very head-based education system. When we are under pressure we often revert to being mental and disconnect from the heart. If we have been very hurt in the past the feelings can be so overwhelming that we escape into our head.  It is a place where we simply do not feel much and so the pain appears to subside. But we cannot connect with each other in a meaningful way from this place. Sometimes it’s hard to realise you are in your head so here are some key signs: Incessant thinking, going over the same situation repeatedly. Worrying about absolutely anything at all. Endless intellectual curiosity and fascination – whilst struggling to relate to others fully and deeply Insistence on logical argument when talking about subjects that are essentially non-logical, non-linear, emotional or spiritual. Judging, criticising and being opinionated about anything (or everything). General argumentativeness, competitive conversation, one-upmanship. Desire to analyse and understand, rather than feel and experience. Learning how to come from the heart is not easy to do by reading, because if you are in your head you will tend to read from your head as well. It is best to learn from people (real human beings!). But I can give you some reminders and pointers to help you on your way. Here...
7 Simple Fast Ways to Change Your Mood

7 Simple Fast Ways to Change Your Mood

A bad mood can easily get a grip on you, but it is a good idea to shift your mood as soon as you can. Being in a bad mood prevents you from attracting positive experiences, and it is unpleasant for you and everyone who comes in contact with you. Sometimes we feel we have no control over our moods, but this is not true. It is always possible to change. Here are some of the most effective ways I have found. 1. Silence your mind for 15 seconds This works really well when your mind is going crazy with negative scenarios. Just tell it firmly to shut up. And keep it shut up. Don’t be too ambitious. 15 seconds is long enough to make a real difference. And once you have done 15 seconds you can do it again…and again…and again. If you find it hard, that is all the more reason to do it. If you find it impossible it is essential to master it. Just 15 seconds. Keep trying until you make it. The effect can be remarkable. 2. Smile for 30 minutes This one is really easy to get started and incredibly hard to go all the way – but even 5 minutes would make a huge difference. I have known people heal severe toothache this way, along with many other painful or emotional situations. The biggest challenge is overcoming resistance to smiling if you are in a bad mood. Your ego will probably have a field day and make it very hard for you to smile at all. You will feel stupid. Your cheeks...
The alchemy of relationships

The alchemy of relationships

Why do the people who are closest to us seem to be the ones who also hurt us the most? In my experience it’s no coincidence. When we understand what relationships offer us, especially in their more painful moments, it opens us up in ways that we would never otherwise discover. In fact, it’s one of the most direct ways of discovering and becoming who you really are – your true self. Most of us experience the feeling that there is a person inside us who is trying to get out – the real person, or the person we feel we really came here to be. It can be intensely frustrating when you can’t get in touch with that person and leaves many people feeling sad and disappointed in life. Interestingly when we have problems with our closest relationships we often blame the other person for stopping us from being the person we want to be. We imagine that if only we had a different partner, or they didn’t treat us that way, everything would be fine. So let’s look a little more deeply at what’s going on. I will give you a couple of examples, because it’s much easier to understand that way. Suppose you have a partner who criticises you all the time and makes you feel you are never good enough, whatever you do. There is a reason why this is happening to you, and specifically why they are criticising you. It’s because you contain that kind of energy inside you – the energy of criticism and ‘not good enough’. There are two most likely scenarios...
If you want things to change, ask for help

If you want things to change, ask for help

I write and talk a lot about asking for help, because it is the simplest way of changing things in life that I have ever come across, and I feel it is highly under-rated. In fifteen years of leading daily energy sessions, I have seen time and time again that people who are able to ask for help easily are the ones who get great results. The ones who want to do it all themselves struggle more and take longer. This is ironic, given that most of us have been taught to be independent, work hard and strive for whatever we want to achieve. Then someone comes along, asks for help, doesn’t do anything, and good things just seem to happen to them without any effort at all. I have spent a lot of time looking at what makes a request for help effective, and I believe it is the same whether we are asking a friend for help, or asking a divine source. I teach people to ask ‘energy’ for help with lots of practical stuff, such as paying  bills when there’s not enough money in the bank account, or healing anything from a cold to broken bones, or solving any of the problems that can arise in daily life. Here are some guidelines for making powerful requests for help to energy. Know that every request you make is heard and is immediately put into action. Most requests take some time to be ‘delivered’ and it is important to be aware of this, so do not panic or think it is not working as that tends to slow...

A beautiful poem by Katy Gagliardi

Everywhere I go I don’t know so I follow signs within muster confidence sans attachment that I’ll reach the top. Incline so subtle I don’t realise my heart beats faster until I reach the point of no return. I clamber onward my mind falters with its body set to crumble. I doggedly grasp at rocks pull myself forward reach the peak many hours after my soul threatened to flee. Wind rushes to burst my eardrums whip me down the mountain. When spirit cracks it exposes a heart: Beating Synchronising Harmonising Catastrophising no longer ‘Cos all the panic lied when it said “You’re not fit for this journey.” Trek downward filled with wonders abloom mind accompanies these with endless static. I periodically break to send each thought to the Earth via the all-knowing of a deeper mind. Silence is never interrupted only interspersed with wind and the sound of hair whipping my jacket. Sounds like bubble wrap. Oneness with my surrounds only occurs now that I see the creation of all creation as creation. I remain within the beauty knowing that presence within its fear and love can only result in further beauty. (c) 2013 Katy...
How do you know when to trust yourself and when to listen to other people?

How do you know when to trust yourself and when to listen to other people?

This is a question I am often asked in different forms and it’s a very good one. I would give a different answer to different people depending on their situation. If you’ve spent all your life listening to other people and doing what they tell you, even against your better judgement, and you feel you’ve never really found out who you are and what your values are, it may be time to start to explore. In this case it’s a question of experimenting and trying out being more independent. You may find yourself expressing opinions that might never have come out of your mouth before – that’s not always comfortable, but it makes you stronger. You will probably make lots of “mistakes”, but this doesn’t matter. It’s by making mistakes (and surviving!) that you will gradually discover your own voice and the strength to express yourself fully. If you are the opposite – very head-strong and independent, and never listen to anyone, it’ a bit different. You are likely to find it very challenging to really listen to anyone. if you start experimenting and find yourself making mistakes you will probably give up very quickly. It would be a good idea for you to develop a listening relationship with your Higher Self, God or some other higher being for whom you have deep respect. You may find it hard to hear anything at first, and you are likely to forget to listen a lot of the time at first. You are too used to listening to your own voice to make much room for anyone else! But as you...
What do I wish I had known before I started all of this?

What do I wish I had known before I started all of this?

If I could start all over again, some 23 years ago, when I took my first steps into the world of personal development and raising my consciousness, there are some things I wish I could have known in advance. It would have saved me years of confusion. I wish I had known… …that there is no right or true path. The grass is no greener on the other side of the fence. There is simply that path I am on, until I change and then I am on another path. I will never know what it would be like to have taken a different route so it’s better to enjoy the one I am on. …that it is all right to question my teachers, and that is a higher level of consciousness than simply accepting everything they say, regardless of whether it makes sense or not. It is my life and I need to find my truth, whatever it takes. One day the questions will become so loud that I will not be able to ignore them any more. It’s better to start asking them sooner rather than later. …that theory does not carry much weight in the world of consciousness. Who I am is so much more important than what I know. Having my mind full of words and philosophy actually gets in the way, so keep it simple. …that solutions are more valuable than answers. Knowing how to solve a problem is not much use unless I actually solve it. There are too many people with all the answers and none of the action. …that people will...
What kind of food should I eat?

What kind of food should I eat?

This is a question I am often asked, especially by new clients. They want me to advise them what kind of food they should eat to aid their healing. This is especially important to people who have allergies, food sensitivities, digestive disorders and the like. Here is a summary of what I have found to be really practical useful advice on diet. It is not medically approved. Some of it flies in the face of advice you can find online and elsewhere. I say it here because I have found it works better this way. Focus on building a healthy digestive system This is by far the most important step and the most overlooked. If your digestive system is not functioning well it really doesn’t matter so much what you eat. Nothing will be good for you. As your digestive system balances out you will find yourself less and less sensitive to what you eat. Allergies disappear. Bloating and other uncomfortable symptoms are relieved and you receive more and more nourishment from your food. So what this means is don’t start by looking at diet. Start by fixing your digestion. Then you will be in a good position to choose a good diet. Stop worrying and be happy The vast majority of digestive and food problems are closely linked with worry, anxiety and nervousness. Traditional Chinese Medicine links worry and excess thinking with imbalance in the energy of the stomach and spleen, which directly cause digestion problems. “Don’t worry, be happy” is excellent advice. It really works and is one of the quickest ways to heal the digestive system....
The power of asking for help

The power of asking for help

What is the simplest, most powerful way to change your life? Ask for help. That’s pretty much all it takes. It’s all too easy, when you are struggling with anything, to think you need to solve it on your own. We learned in school not to look at what other people were doing and not to get help from our friends because it was cheating. We were largely educated for independence, personal achievement and aiming to be the best. Asking for help was what you had to do when you didn’t understand – not a comfortable place to be. I have noticed that a lot of people find it extremely difficult, if not completely alien, to ask for help with their life, especially in front of other people. It often takes an incurable illness, debilitating divorce or complete business failure before they are really willing to open up, say what’s going on and ask for help. This is such a pity. It causes years and years of suffering, pain and misery that could be avoided – and I am not exaggerating. Something happens when we ask for help, even if we do not know who to ask or what help we need. Whether you ask a friend, an expert or the universe, these requests are always heard and responded to in ways that are surprising and often touching. The response may not come directly from the person you ask and it may come from a completely different direction than anything you imagined. In my experience, a sincere request for help is the most powerful trigger for healing. Asking in front...
The simple, not so secret of happiness

The simple, not so secret of happiness

Can you remember when you were a child? Sometimes you felt so happy for no reason whatsoever. Maybe you were just lying in the grass or on the beach or playing or doing nothing in particular. If you have spent much time in the world of personal development you may sometimes wonder what happened to that simple, natural happiness. As adults it seems the search for happiness is much more complicated. First we tend to think it lies in being rich or having the right job or being able to discover and live our passion. Then we gradually discover that life doesn’t always work that way. We see people who are rich and not happy. We get the right job and it doesn’t make us a lot happier than we were. We can even discover our passion and find we sabotage ourselves with self-doubt. Then we learn how to be positive; how to change our thinking; how to clear negativity; how to identify and get rid of self-limiting beliefs; and how to do a whole lot more. We feel happier sometimes but it often seems elusive. We can’t rely on it. Sometimes it’s there but it can disappear so easily, leaving us with another lot of negativity to clear out or work on. It can be pretty exhausting. Then we learn that happiness lies in connecting with the right energy, or with God or with Source and we try really hard to connect the right way. We can put huge effort into being connected and sometimes it feels amazing. We pray, meditate and relax. We get some powerful experiences. We...
If you are kind to other people how come you are so hard on yourself?

If you are kind to other people how come you are so hard on yourself?

It appears to be highly acceptable these days to be very kind and loving to other people and desperately hard on yourself. I frequently meet people who wouldn’t dream of hurting another person and will go out of their way to make sure they treat others with the utmost respect and yet they are really harsh towards themselves. They criticise themselves all the time and often have almost impossible expectations of themselves. It looks like this might be the more moral way to be, but I’d like to explain something about energy so it becomes crystal clear why it is so important to treat yourself as well as you treat others. This is vital to understand if we want to stop to the endless cycles of pain and hurt that many people are experiencing. We are all made of energy – scientific fact. That means we have a frequency or a vibration that emanates from us all the time. Our experience of life reflects that frequency back to us. If we have a frequency of love and kindness we experience a life of love and kindness. If we have a frequency of poverty we are poor. If we have a frequency of resentment or bitterness life will feel harsh and bitter to us. The frequency we emanate not only affects our personal experience of life. It affects everyone around us as well. So our families, friends and work colleagues receive this vibration from us, whether they are conscious of it or not, all the time. In fact, since we are all energy, and there is no real separation between...
What if you couldn’t brush your teeth today?

What if you couldn’t brush your teeth today?

Most of us would feel pretty uncomfortable if we couldn’t brush our teeth today. I know I would be constantly running my tongue around my teeth, eating raw carrots and trying to clean them as best I could without a toothbrush. So suppose you couldn’t brush your teeth for a week? Or a month? Or a year? It seems almost unthinkable in the 21st Century. I imagine that the smell and the dirt would be one of the most challenging parts of travelling backwards in time. So let’s jump forward a few decades. With the discoveries of the last 20 years (and more) about how our energy determines our health, relationships, finances and all aspects of our material life I predict that we are going to become much more sensitive about how clean our energy is. Having a cluttered energy field is like having a cluttered house, but worse. You can’t think straight. You can’t breathe easily. You can’t relax properly. There’s always stuff in the way, and that stuff shows up as emotions and negativity. We are all connected energetically, and our energy sends ripples or waves of energy out from us, affecting everyone we are connected with. If we truly understand this simple fact we would want to do anything we could to prevent ourselves from sending out negative waves. And that means avoiding negative thoughts and negative emotions. If we time-travelled from the future back to 2013, and got to feel the energetic field around most people, I guess it would be about as overpowering as meeting someone who hasn’t brushed their teeth for a year....
Another guest blog from Emma

Another guest blog from Emma

A few weeks ago I posted a message from Emma, our beautiful, silent neighbour*. Here is some more of what she communicated that day. She was initially addressing her family, friends and carers, but it is applicable to everyone. I want to say to you all, relax, I am having a beautiful life. I have deep appreciation for everything that you do for me and I love you. And I want to tell you that my life is a beautiful experience. I am not suffering in the way you might if you were in my position. I am free, even though I can’t talk and I can’t walk. I want you to see how beautiful your life is. I want you to see the extraordinary abundance or richness of your life, as I see it in my own life. I want to share that between all of us, so we are all sharing with each other the incredible beauty and richness and abundance of life. Every little tiny act you do, every little movement you make, is an act of life. It’s a contribution to life, to this stream of living consciousness. And every movement you make changes the course of that consciousness for ever. You only need to make small movements to be very powerful. One small step, one small change of direction, one small movement, changes the flow of life. Sometimes you feel you need to make big changes and big movements and big gestures, and then you can’t handle the consequences and you become confused. In truth you only need to make small movements and enjoy...
Let’s talk about the real secrets of personal growth

Let’s talk about the real secrets of personal growth

We are often promised we can find out the ultimate secrets of life if we buy this product or that course. It’s powerful marketing because it hooks into our deepest insecurities as human beings. But through more than 20 years experience of personal and spiritual training and development I have found the real secrets don’t need to be packaged in a product. They can be revealed right here, in full, without any need to promise anything or sell anything or hook you into anything. It is better to know these in advance because you will spend your money more wisely and be more prepared for the process. 1. It takes time and patience. I have experienced some miracles and seen many other people who have experienced miracles in some area of their life, but those same people can experience deep frustration in another area or at another time and get totally stuck, just like everyone else. I could have written one of those amazing testimonials about receiving a miraculous amount of money out of the blue. It has happened to me several times. But I also experienced financial failure after the miracles, so they proved that miracles can happen, but they are not the whole answer. Only the glowing testimonials get published – which is fair enough – but it is important to realise that behind those miracles lies a lot of time, patience, frustration and all the other ups and downs that are part of learning anything worthwhile. 2. It is easiest and quickest to learn with someone who has mastered their subject. This is obvious – it would be...
The heart of the matter – relationship, relationship, relationship

The heart of the matter – relationship, relationship, relationship

Do you have a partner with whom you share a strong, loving and mutually satisfying relationship? Do you feel at peace with your parents? Are you friends with your children? Do you experience love and ease in your friendships? Do you have mutually supportive and respectful relationships at work? Are you at peace with all your relationships and friendships from the past? Do you love and respect yourself and look after yourself really well? Do you have a connected, satisfying and rewarding relationship with the Light/Divine (or any other name for God/Energy/Spirit/the Creator)? Do you love your life? If the answer is yes to all of those questions your heart is wide open and you are probably experiencing a lot of peace and happiness in your life. You are a shining example for people all around you and you are bringing great joy to others as well as to yourself. If the answer to any of these questions is no you know what it feels like to have closed your heart, maybe because you felt hurt or misunderstood or ignored. Even if you work hard to be positive and loving towards others I am sure you can still feel some sadness or loss around the relationships that are not at peace. When your heart is open you feel at ease within yourself and you can experience the best of what human life has to offer. Trust is your natural state of being, life feels benign and you are relaxed and peaceful. Fear, doubt and worry have no place in your world. It doesn’t take much for our hearts to...
Be a light in your own life – guest blog by Emma

Be a light in your own life – guest blog by Emma

A message from Emma Be a light in your own life, so you’re a light to other people. It’s that simple. You don’t need to have anything, you don’t need to prove anything, you don’t need to be anything and you don’t need to be anybody. There is nothing that can be so wrong with you that you cannot be a light in your own life and with those around you. Even if you cannot talk, you cannot walk, even if you cannot do anything for yourself there is nothing in the world that can stop you from being a light in your own life and in the life of other people, especially those who are close to you and all around you. And there is no limit to how bright you can be, whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever your life looks like on the outside. So I want to suggest you to pause for a moment. Listen to all the noise inside you and ask yourself is that truly light? Am I really shining? And if the circumstances in your life are such that it feels complicated and difficult and it’s hard to shine, for a moment just imagine that you can’t speak, you can’t walk, you can’t do any of the things you can normally do and so you can only shine. You can only be a light. You have no other opportunity or possibility in your life. For a few minutes allow yourself to be so disabled as a human being that you can only be a light. And stay there for a little...
What is the essence of healing?

What is the essence of healing?

Some of us are called to be healers but healing is not for everyone. Just as some of us are called to be artists or business people or athletes or teachers. These are major life paths that attract us. When we slot into the ‘right’ path we feel we are on track. When we are working in a field that has no connection with our true path we may feel disconnected or off track. We tend to think of this as a personal decision. It’s all about what career we choose and what direction we take in our life. But we are all connected. We are effectively one humanity, expressing itself through the billions of human beings – as if we are all the cells of the human race. So imagine if our life path is not just about ourselves, but it is our contribution to the whole of humanity. This totally changes our perspective. For example the healers would not only be here to heal a few individuals, but in healing anyone they would be healing the whole human race. The business people would not be making money for themselves alone, but creating wealth for all of us. The athletes would not be going for gold for their own personal glory, but stimulating the whole species to raise its spirit and uplift its achievement. You can see this clearly in the business world. Every person who creates a business creates wealth for all his/her employees and suppliers, as well as for the government, through taxation. They also contribute to the abundance of their clients by giving them products...
Your emotions are a sensitive and powerful prediction tool – use them to keep you healthy

Your emotions are a sensitive and powerful prediction tool – use them to keep you healthy

Did you know that there is a really simple way to predict your state of health in the future? This is not a scary thing. It’s a way to get clear so you can take preventative action. It is much better than waiting for something to happen, especially since there is so much you can do nowadays that really works. It has become widely medically acknowledged that most of the serious illnesses we face in the West are caused by our lifestyle, and especially by the way we think and feel. A huge amount of research and publishing effort is currently going into promoting different lifestyles and choices, from diet and supplements to classes, courses and practices that all promise to improve your health and prevent disease. I have found that people often find prevention very challenging. It’s not easy to change your habits unless you have a very good reason to, and so many people wait until they get a scare or a strong warning before taking action. Of course, it would be much better to take action a long time before you need to be scared. That’s why having simple, practical methods of early prediction can be so valuable. It allows you to take action at a time when it is much easier to make an impact. So here are a few questions to ask yourself. On the table put a mental circle around the score for each of the pairs of  emotions, to represent your general emotional state. Example: if you are often mildly stressed circle -1 on the first line. If you hardly ever worry...
A few tips on overcoming resistance

A few tips on overcoming resistance

I have spent a lot of time looking at resistance – my own and other people’s. It’s really tough being full of resistance, especially when you feel you should be more flexible, easy going, accepting, open, flowing etc etc etc. It’s very interesting that the more pressure you place on yourself not to be resistant the more the resistance seems to grow. And this, I have found, is actually the key to overcoming resistance. 1. Avoid should, must, ought and have to – at all costs My earlier life was full of words like should, must, ought and have to. I put huge pressure on myself about the things I should have done, ought to be doing and had to do. It made me work very hard, often created a lot of guilt and shame and it was highly stressful. Later, when I got into self development in a big way, I was taught that I must be heathy and I must be happy and I must be peaceful – all really good advice if you want a positive life. But the strange thing was that more I pushed myself and forced myself the more resistance I seemed to experience. And there is nothing more uncomfortable than resisting all the things you really want in your life, like health and happiness and inner peace. It’s highly self-defeating. 2. Make choices instead I started to wonder what would happen if I stopped saying I must do anything? What would happen if I simply took all the pressure off and only did things I chose. This might sound easy, but I...
From coffee to ecstasy

From coffee to ecstasy

As human beings we have a natural attraction to the Light, just as trees and plants are naturally drawn to grow upwards towards the sun. There appears to be an almost universal desire for love, peace, joy and many other other feelings and experiences that are associated with the Light. This desire is so strong that we will often seek these feelings in any way we can. If we do not have access to the knowledge and teaching that can lead us to experience these feelings within ourselves we naturally look around to see where else we can find them. There is an interesting range of options available to us which usually give very fast results: Sugar – for sweetness Caffeine – for more energy Cannabis – to feel relaxed, laid back and easy going Alcohol – to feel uninhibited and free Cigarettes – for feelings of well-being and pleasure Ecstasy – to feel connected and loving towards everyone And there are many other popular substances which will help you feel high, liberated, detached, euphoric, or will give you an experience of magic, visions, intensification of colour and sound and much more. It is hardly surprising that there is such extensive use of mind-altering substances at this time in our history? We are experiencing an unprecedented growth in self-development and spirituality. If you do not know how to access good feelings by connecting with the Light (in some form or other), and you are born into a generation that has such a strong desire for this connection, what can you do? You have to find it somehow – it’s...
3 ways to make prayers and requests for divine help more effective

3 ways to make prayers and requests for divine help more effective

I want to write about praying and how to ask for what you want from a divine source, because I have watched so many people fail in their requests. Now this is a topic on which there is always more to learn, so this is only my observation and experience so far. But I have experienced so much failure and success in my own life and seen both in so many other people that I can say there is a science of prayer which is well worth exploring. 1. If you’re really desperate just pray for help. The biggest mistake most people make is to pray from a position of desperation. I personally find that the best prayer when I am really desperate is totally simple: “Please God (or whoever you want to address) help me.” That is all I ask for until I feel better. When you feel really desperate there is very little point in asking for anything specific (money, healing, solutions to problems). You have lost any sense of solutions being possible and all you need at this stage is to establish some connection with the Divine. Get the line open so a little light can shine into your situation. If you keep it simple at this stage it works very fast and you can feel better within seconds or minutes. Once you feel better you can start to get more specific. 2. Ask directly and keep yourself out of the way. A very common way of praying is to ask for help to do something or get something. “Please help me make more money.” “Please...

We always have a choice

We always have a choice

In the last two days I have had several conversations with people who said “I should do xxx” or “I must do xxx”. Interestingly these jobs that must or should be done seem always to end up at the bottom of the list of priorities, even though the compulsion to do them appears very strong. “I must tidy the house.” “I should eat healthier food.” “I really have to get fit.” This in turn only adds to the pressure. So we repeat over and over again “I must do it…” or I must get round to it…” but the resistance is enormous and continues to grow, sometimes only being released when there is an internal explosion – tears, anger, rage or total abandonment – leading to disappointment and eventual depression. This is a remarkably unpleasant way to live, and is probably familiar to many of us. It was described to me today as being “held in a vice”. It is clearly counterproductive, but most methods of breaking free of the vice only work temporarily. You relax or meditate and get a few minutes of breathing space until the vice tightens its grip around you again. So far I can honestly say that I have only found one way out of this vice that is clearly going to work in the long term. I remind myself that I am totally free. I have free will and can make whatever choices I want. There are consequences to my choices but there is no compulsion. If I make an unwise choice (ie I don’t like the consequences) I can choose again. It...
